What many CBD consumers will not know is that their CBD oils will come from a host of different Cannabis strains. In the same way that a Cannabis connoisseur will choose a strain based on its flavour profile and effects, you may be able to do the same with your CBD.
The five CBD strains below are some of the most commonly used in industrial hemp production and all carry their unique profile.
Ferimon
Ferimon is a French hemp strains bred by the Federacion Nacional des Producteurs de Chanvre. You will notice that this strain produces a high quantity of seeds. This is because the strain carries both female and male flowers on the same plant. This is a popular choose for growers in the northern hemisphere as they grow well in an Atlantic Climate. The 0.2% THC limit restricts choice for farmers in europe as there are many other strains yielding higher levels of Cannabinoids that are illegal to grow.
Yunnan
This strains comes from the Yunnan province in South West China. It has become widely known for its super relaxing and calming effects. China Yunnan’s flowers are dark green, and they are heavily coated in a generous layer of resinous trichomes. This makes the plant great for Cannabinoid extraction. It is the most commonly found CBD used in Chinese production.
Finola
Finola is a hemp strain from Finland which grows with just a few hours of light a day. Its is appreciated for its high CBD content and low THC levels making it a common choice for CBD producers in the EU. It is also auto flowering which improves yields for the farmers
Cannatonic
This strain originates from a Spanish CBD genetics company called Resin Seeds. Widely recognized as the “CBD queen,” this strain pre-dated many other CBD strains and helped spark the CBD movement of today. Some Cannatonic plants have tested as high as 17% CBD. The flowers have an earthy and citrus flavour due to an abundance of myrcene, b-caryophyllene and limonene terpenes.
Charlotte’s Web
First surfacing in 2011, Charlotte’s Web is a high-CBD strain with an incredible history behind it — one that helped shed the stigma surrounding the use of medical cannabis to treat children. This cultivar is responsible for 14% of the US CBD market. The dominant terpenes in Charlotte’s Web include beta-myrcene, caryophyllene and bisabolol giving it a sweet taste and woodland aroma.
So next time you purchase CBD see whether you can identify the strain — this may help you to find the perfect CBD product for you.
